The sword has an English hilt, made circa 1610-20 overlaid with gold and silver. The blade was made in Solingen, Germany (dated 1617), gilded, blued and etched with animals, mottoes and sayings stamped with the mark of Clemens Horn. By tradition the sword belonged to Charles I.
